Kali "freezing" after VBox update

So I updated today and VBox was one of the updated pckage. Since the update my Kali Linux does freeze at the login screen. It's not a real freeze since I can see the clock moving but I can't type my login/password.
I tried to reinstall it and it was ok until I installed the guest addition then the same behavior happened.
So this is the step I can do to reproduce it:

- install kali in VBox
- update my sources.list and update/upgrade
- install linux headers
- install guest additions
- reboot

Any idea what could cause this?

Nothing to do with Pacman, this sounds like more of an issue with the (unsupported) guest.
