Hey everybody,
after my last complete system upgrade which installed nvidia driver 355.11 i got
the background corruption in my gnome environment i have read about before.
It happens when i switch virtual terminals. The image from the login screen as well as desktop background gets terrible corrupted.
This link here says there should be a workaround in Gnome 3.16.1. Since we have version 3.16.2 in arch now i think this "workaround"
does not catch it for the new nvidia driver...

Does anybody else have this issue?

Yup, I've put this command on Super+F12 to be able to restart gnome-shell easily:
dbus-send --type=method_call --dest=org.gnome.Shell /org/gnome/Shell org.gnome.Shell.Eval "string:global.reexec_self()"
Here's the bug report that the link you found was talking about:
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=739178
There's also a bit of talk about switching virtual terminals in there, but I think there was no solution (I might have overlooked something).

That happened to me yesterday. I logged out and back in. Fixed it. No reason to assume it won't happen again, but the work around is easy enough.

Same problem here when switching TTYs. Easier than relogin into you Gnome session is to restart it : ALT+F2, then write 'r', press enter. You won't have to close all this way.

The workaround mentioned in https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=739178 is still present in the latest code that I checked out so I don't understand why this is no longer working as of gnome-shell 3.18.0-1 and nvidia 355.11-3
And the background corruption started with gnome-shell 3.16 but I never had any issues with that version.

I got this bug with previous version of Gnome but it got fixed. It only spawned when I suspended my PC not when switching to TTYs.
After upgrading to Gnome 3.18, I got background corrupted every time I switch to TTY. It looks like some kind of regression introduced in the new version or a new different bug.

Will this ever get fixed?!

I have the same thing starting from 3.14.

I presume it will eventually get fixed. I think Nvidia developers use Gnome and I wouldn't be surprised if they end up contributing Wayland support to Gnome and fixing this along the way.
