[SOLVED] Headphone jack stopped working after upgrade

My headphones worked fine up until I rebooted after an -Syu. They still work on other devices, so I know its not a problem with the headphones themselves. When using alsamixer, it reports my headphones as being unmuted with the volume up. The speakers also get disabled when I plug the headphones in, so they are being detected somehow. I've also tried downgrading the kernel to 4.0.7 and 4.0.5, but neither of these seem to work. Any pointers?

Edit: the solution is to just put the computer to sleep once, after you upgrade.

If you think the upgrade has something to do with it, shouldn't you go and have a look what was upgraded?

The only relevant update seemed to be the kernel and dbus, both of which I tried downgrading but it didn't fix the problem.

I have the exact same issue, just started after I updated this morning.

Did you find a solution?

Re: [SOLVED] Headphone jack stopped working after upgrade

No, I'm still at work, but I'm probably going to try downgrading to an even earlier version of the kernel. There also have been no updates to any of the alsa packages as far as i can tell (there is nothing in /var/cache/pacman/pkg). I looked into a couple of python scripts for overriding the pinout of the sound card, but I dont trust myself to not break it further.

I also tried modifying the alsa config file in /etc/modprobe.d, by replacing model=auto with both model=thinkpad and model=alc3232, but neither of these worked, even after a reboot.

Re: [SOLVED] Headphone jack stopped working after upgrade

I just sat down to look into it, and when i plugged my headphones in, they started working again... the only thing I've done since last night was put my laptop to sleep though...

I am facing the same problem, headphones aren't working even though it's unmuted and full in alsamixer. I tried your suggestion of putting the laptop to sleep and my headphones are working now. Just to confirm I did a reboot, headphones didn't work, put laptop to sleep and headphones work again after waking up!

OK, tried the same thing, putting the laptop to sleep and waking it back up does indeed resolve the issue. Very strange.

Re: [SOLVED] Headphone jack stopped working after upgrade

I confirm that the headphones finally start to emit sound after a `systemctl suspend`. Still need to investigate what's going on with this ACPI event.

Re: [SOLVED] Headphone jack stopped working after upgrade

I have the same problem and a suspend/resume fixes it. But the problem resurfaces at random. I can't really consistently reproduce it, that is sometimes after a reboot the headphones work fine, sometimes I need to suspend/resume. Does anyone have this as a recurring problem?

Re: [SOLVED] Headphone jack stopped working after upgrade

Hm, is it really "SOLVED" since this is still hitting people every once in a while?

Anyway, just wanted to report that this is still occuring and is still easily resolved by suspending and waking up the computer.

Re: [SOLVED] Headphone jack stopped working after upgrade

I have this issue every time when I suspend my T540p with headphones plugged in: Afterwards, they don't give any sound. Only a re-suspend or re-start with unplugged Headphones helps...
