Suddenly I can not access a particular web site from Arch

This seems ridiculous but for the last few days I have not be able to access https://chess24.com/ from my Arch boxes. If I use chromium (my normal browser), it immediately gives me an "Aw shucks" on any page on the site. Firefox completely dies and gives a core dump, and gnome web browser gives a "Oops!" page. Deleting all cookies etc makes no difference, nor does accessing it from an incognito window. This happens on my main Arch PC. On my similarly configured Arch Dell notebook both Firefox and GNOME browser fail the same way but chromium does display the site (usually). I've disabled extensions, plugins, hardware accel, etc but no difference. There have been thousands of people viewing chess24 in the last few days since the World Chess Rapid and Blitz champs have been on but nobody else is reporting any issues. My PC and notebook are quite fast boxes and I have no other problems with any other sites.

Does this happen to other Archers? Any ideas?

Re: Suddenly I can not access a particular web site from Arch

This page crash all of my installed browser (firefox, chromium and opera). It must be something wrong with this page, although a bad page should not segfault firefox as it does in my case.

Re: Suddenly I can not access a particular web site from Arch

dwb also dies there, but then again, dwb dies on a lot of sites hmm
My firefox also dies on that page.

EDIT I don't know whether this is intentional, but it's pretty exceptional that a site can make most major browsers crash. Kudos to who ever wrote that site smile

EDIT2

Vector smash protection is enabled.

Program received signal SIGSEGV, Segmentation fault.

Re: Suddenly I can not access a particular web site from Arch

But it seems odd that of the thousands of people accessing that site in the last few days I've not seen anybody else complaining about any issues, except now for some fellow Archers?

I have visited that site very often over the last year without issue. This only started happening a few days ago.

With the font resource loaded in firefox seems to trigger infinite recursion through the following series of calls

Also happens on fivethirtyeight.com. Can confirm that downgrading harfbuzz and harfbuzz-icu to 1.04-1 fixes 538.com as well.

Yes, thanks. Downgrading harfbuzz and harfbuzz-icu to 1.0.4-1 fixes all the browser crashes I was experiencing. I found a related bug and added a reference back to this thread. See https://bugs.archlinux.org/task/46717.

Re: Suddenly I can not access a particular web site from Arch

Apparently harfbuzz 1.0.5-2 fixes the problem but that hasn't come to my mirror yet.

That 1.0.5-2 update works for me on fivethirtyeight.com and chess24.com
