I may add, that I have a dedicated GPU (NVidia GT 740m).

Re: [SOLVED] Boot warnings/errors

Can you tell us the story behind this please? Should we assume this follows a new installation? Is this just a 32 bit machine? What make and model is it? We could likely see hardware details if we know that. Does it get through this and function or not? If not, what does happen?

Re: [SOLVED] Boot warnings/errors

Of course. The timeline is as follows:

1.) Installed Windows 8 and upgraded to 8.1 (installed on 200 GB with 800 GB remaining for Linux)
2.) Installed Arch Linux i686 on my 64 bit machine. I like to have the 32 bit version due to several reasons, it doesnt matter why, I guess.
3.) Installed gnome 3.18

After that I got the problems, but the system is booting fine. The thing is, that the system only shows 2.7 GByte of RAM, although I have 8 GByte installed. I know, that it is limited to 4 GByte on a 32 bit system, but at least the 4 GByte would be nice to have. It's a Lenovo Thinkpad Edge 540.

Re: [SOLVED] Boot warnings/errors

You are right that it doesn't really matter why you are using 32 bit Arch. But this is a new install right so please humor me. Install 64 bit, include the multilib repository and see how much of this is gone. I don't think you'll still have much if anything at all to address. I may be wrong but I don't think so in this case.

Re: [SOLVED] Boot warnings/errors

I'm developing with my small crew for the raspberry pi and we found it a pain in the *** to develop a 32 bit application on a 64 bit system. I know it's doable, but we prefer to develop all on a 32 bit system. If no other answer helps in the next hours, I will do the 64 bit installation, since a good and clean installation is important to me.

Thank you for your help so far Blasphemist!

Re: [SOLVED] Boot warnings/errors

Okay, I installed the 64 bit version, then did the following things:

useradd ...
pacman -S gnome-shell gnome-extra gdm
systemctl enable gdm
reboot

Then I rebooted into gnome 3.18 and I have a blue background color, top bar is visible and all, but the system freezes right after login.

Re: [SOLVED] Boot warnings/errors

I've found out, that the open source driver is not working properly on my machine. I installed the nvidia 340 driver and almost everything works as expected now. I still have a few warnings and errors (seen in dmesg), but I will figure them out with the help of the forum. Thank you for your help.
