Steam won't start: an X error has occurred

Hello,

I have recently installed arch linux 64-bit and, at first, steam worked fine. Now when I try to launch steam, it wont start. This is what I get from the console:

I am using Nvidia proprietary drivers (gtx 980 card) and installed Arch linux 64-bit (Mate DE, refind boot manager, no display manager)

Hi,

It seems like you have a problem with your graphic libraries.
Hopefully you got a nvidia graphic card so try to fix it by installing bumblebee. https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Bumblebee
Follow the step and be aware of this line "install lib32-mesa-libgl and make sure that lib32-nvidia-libgl is NOT installed"
So DON'T install lib32-nvidia-libgl.

Hey Rad,

Thank you for the reply. I solved the problem by re installing arch. I have a question though regarding what you suggested. Usually I install the lib32-nvidia-libgl with the nvidia proprietary drivers. Should I install the lib32-Mesa-libgl instead? If so why?

No you shouldn't, his advice applies to a Bumblebee/Optimus setup as commonly found on laptops with hybrid graphic cards (a powersaving intel integrated and an ondemand accessible nvidia card) which doesn't apply to your setup
