Hi,
I have little to no knowledge for this issue, but did you have a look at any of the log files/ your journal? It contains a valuable source of intel for problem solving. If no try to do so, or show the error message on this thread.

What happens if you press Cttrl-Alt-F2.
Can you try to ssh into the box from another computer?

Have you tried booting with "nomodeset" as a kernel command line parameter?

Did you manage to get a graphical desktop running before trying lxdm?
Can you load a desktop using startx(1)?
What is your hardware?
You can boot to the console with the "systemd.unit=multi-user.target" or "systemd.unit=rescue.target" as kernel parameters.

What makes you think the problem is the display manager? Do you get any indication that it is even booting successfully, or that the encryption password was actually accepted?

i know it is the display manager becuase prior to that i had not changed anything on my system for roughly 3 days , i installed the dm and then rebooted and i was presented with the blank screen.

Okay, you cannot change to a different console. But (assuming ssh is set up) why do you think the DM would impact the ability to ssh in to the system?
Can you ping the system?
Can you boot into single user mode?
