[REQUEST] temp-throttle -- Throttle CPU frequency based on a maximum t

Throttle CPU frequency based on a maximum temperature.

Hello All. I am the developer of the temp-throttle. I use Ubuntu on my laptop, but I hope to share this software with a broader audience. It is written entirely as a Bash script. I wrote it a couple years ago to prevent my own laptop from over-heating and powering off. Nowadays I use it to keep my laptop at a maximum temperature of cool 60C. It has gained some followers over the years. Currently over 50 stars on github

https://github.com/Sepero/temp-throttle
Licensed GPL v2

A few months ago I saw there was a build-script for temp-throttle in the AUR, but I see that it is no longer there? (Perhaps there is a way to recover this build-script). My request is not only to have my software packaged, but also I would like to work with you to help make it easier (more proper?) for packaging. I would like to see it integrate well on Arch. I am still maintaining this code. I just fixed a bug that affects ARM architecture. Soon I intend to add support for /etc configuration. After that I want to add a script to boot the software properly using systemd (I will require help with this).

Temp-throttle helps prevent hardware from being damaged from over heating, and people can use it to help save electricity. Perhaps we can work together to spread this software to those who need it. Thank you

UPDATE:
Found the build-script on AUR3

Hello, and welcome to the Arch Linux forums.  As you have not been a member here, you were probably not aware of the recent change over from AUR3 to AUR4.   In essence, there was a restructuring of how the archive is maintained with a shift to using git as the submission/pull mechanism.

Everyone maintaining packages in the AUR were notified and were given months to transition packages to the new AUR before the switch was thrown.  The idea was to use the switch over as a filter to eliminate packages out which no one seemed to care.   We have seen many examples where packages fell by the wayside only to have someone query as to why they were deleted.

The truth is, the files still exist in an archive, and should someone be interested in maintaining it, are welcome to adopt the package and release it to AUR4.  ONLY if they want to maintain it.

Hi Sepero

That's a simple but awesome idea.
I was just burning my cpu encoding videos with handbrake, now I'm using temp-throttle to keep the things a bit cooler.

Could you please consider also the use of cpupower as in our official Wiki ?
https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/CP … cy_scaling

I'll adopt the package to move it to the AUR (and in the officlal repositories whenever it will have enough votes).

If anyone else would be interested in helping, I need all the help I can get.  smile

Muflone, good working finding the link. I'm not very skilled at using git, but have created a "testing" branch for the code. This way I can start implementing all the new stuff, without disturbing people who still need something solid. Thank you for your help.

About your mail server: it tells me
554-IP address is black listed.

in reply to your email:

The AUR package is called temp-throttle-git which means that as a git
package, the source will always get the latest available version for the
default branch.
Then, if the dependencies weren't changed, there's no need to update the
PKGBUILD at all.
