My netbook, since this upgrade, has randomly frozen, by which I mean that everything has stopped working. The clock, the keyboard, the mouse, no possibility as a result to Ctl Alt F2 into a console, Journalctl simply stops recording, without any errors shown. etc etc. Only way to continue is to restart the computer via the start button. There is no apparent link with any running application. e.g in the middle of a Skype call, a browser session. a spreadsheet operation.
Netbook is:
Model : B115M
CPU : Intel Atom Pentium(R) CPU N3540 - 4 cores @ 2.16GHz
GPU : Atom Processor Z36xxx/Z37xxx Series Graphics & Display [8086:F31] [i915 driver]
/etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-intel.conf :
Section "Device"
Identifier "Intel Graphics"
Driver "intel"
Option "AccelMethod" "uxa"
EndSection
Memory : 8GB SODIMM DDR3 Synchronous 1333 MHz (0.8 ns)
Disk : ATA Toshiba MQ01ACF0
After downgrading to 4.2.2-1 it has not frozen again (yet :-) )
Has anyone any suggestion as to what has gone wrong for me?

Are the keyboard LEDs flashing? Can you "ping" your box from another computer on the network?

How can I find out what changed between 4.2.2-1 and 4.2.3-1?

Could you post journal output (use journalctl -b N with N a negative number to get the log) from one of the freezed boots ?
Other people may see things you missed.

Thanks for that, I am afraid it means very litte to me.

Good news, the upgrade to 4.2.4-1 has solved the problem.
Just hope that it does not recur with 4.2.5-1 which I see is out now.

I had the same Problem and i have the same CPU like you. So it is probably a Problem with that. Now the Problem seemed to be solved, but I had one freeze just 10 Minutes ago.
Going go update Kernel to 4.2.5-1 now.

After having no problems for like 2 Days (after updating to 4.2.4-1) I had one freeze with 4.2.4-1 today and one after an update to 4.2.5-1.
Still, I have no idea why the heck this keeps happening. I can't recognize any steadiness. It just seem to happen every now and then...
Edit: Do you use the Notebook for playing games? I got the impression it freezes more often, if Iam using PlayOnLinux, tho I can't prove this. Anyway I would really appreciate if it would be that way, since this (my) notebook is not meant to be played on, but I need it for working at university.
Edit2: Okay, I just had another crash. No POL or anything else opened, just Chromium and I was just browsing the web.

Sorry to hear that.
All the changes seemed to be related to the network, if that helps at all.
My netbook has a weird set up because I like it. I am using xfce4 with Compiz!!! I know, but I like it. No crashes since 4.2.3-1.
If the crashes are with gaming then I would look at the GPU.
Hope you sort it out soon.

I have the same problem with my netboo, is a HP Pavilion 11 x360, with an intel Pentium N3540.
I have recently installed arch and had this random freezes problems, I can't find a specific trigger for that, have to say that I installed arch in the same machine around a month ago a worked so good, now I have reinstalled it, and have this problems with no apparent reason, upgraded the kernel with pacman -Syuu to 4.2.5-1 but remains the same.
Right now it happens more, I will leave some outputs here

The problem happens suddenly, usually when switching from text editor to brower(any browser I have installed), sometimes scrolling web pages, something I go out of my room for a second and when I return, is frozed.
Dont remember which version of the kernel was when I installed, but since installed it had this problem, can you help me to downgrade - install older kernel in order to test how it works, or if you wanna see another output that might help, just tell me, thanks in advance.
Edit: Just installed linux-lts kernel and deleted linux kernel, will test and notificate any news, hope it works this time.

Okay, so it appears to be a problem regarding the Pentium N3540 CPU, since we all three got this in our machines.
I think the Kernel 4.2.2-1 was the last which worked for me without freezes.

I've got the same problem here, with Linux 4.2.5-1, and my CPU is an AMD Phenom II X4 965.
But it does seem to occur more frequently if the computer is under heavier load (and not necessarily something GPU-intensive), so something to do with the CPU would make sense, I guess.
I'll try installing linux-lts, thanks a lot for the tip!
PS: Is it the same for you too? For me, when the system freezes, the sound of the last second or two is looping. (Might be a general syndrom of such freezes, though. Same in this bug, which is probably from too early to be the same as this one.)

You could also just downgrade to 4.2.2-1 :-)

You're right, that does seem like a more light-weight solution …
Trying that instead. (Please also see my PS above about the sound.)
Offline
Sorry, but other than 4.2.3-1 my system seems to be back to normal. I think that the sound problem might be quite normal in these circumstances, in that if the system is apparently frozen, certain parts are still running, for example the screen.
Offline
Did anyone already create or find a bug report for this? Otherwise, I guess the chances of it getting fixed would be rather slim.

I'd suggest fdservices creates a bug report, because I find his starting post to be pretty complete.
So far I am pretty glad I'm not the only one having this problem, so the chance might be a bit bigger, to get a fix.
The sound problem is the same for me, btw.
One time I was watching a video and the sound seeme to be played on. Not looping but the normal way. Anyway, the machine was dead.

I would be happy to but:
1) My problem has been solved :-)
2) It is difficult to file a bug report when the cause is unknown and it is not reproducible.
I would suggest that you try eliminating possible causes to see of you can pinpoint the problem. Those who still have a problem - post details of your hardware and see if anything is common.
Most of the fixes from 4.2.2-1 to 4.2.3.1 seem to be network related , so it might be worth looking in this area.

I'm using an Asus X503m with Intel Atom N2930 processor, I've had this problem for most of 4.2.x. FWIW, it does happen (is reproducible) mostly when running chrome/chromium with >5 tabs open but there are no logs, no errors thrown. I'm running Plasma 5 and related libs here.

Just had the problem again with 4.2.2-1, though this time it took way longer to appear. (With many programs open, 4.2.5-1 usually froze after a few minutes, now I didn't have the problem for days.)
Guess I'll switch to Linux LTS after all.
I also now created a bug report: https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=107351
Better than doing nothing about it, at least there is a chance of this being fixed that way.
