Hi All
I hope you don't mind the question but I am considering upgrading my present Matrox Millennium to one of these two cards:
Crucial ATI Radeon 7500
http://www.crucial.com/store/partspecs. … Video+Card
or
Crucial ATI Radeon 9100
http://www.crucial.com/store/partspecs. … Video+Card
Both card will be significant upgrades to what I have now. From reading various xfree related documents found on the net, I am guessing these cards would be well supported by xfree86 drivers. So, does any foresee any kind of linux issues for these ATI cards?
Thanks
Kevin

the radeon 7500 is quite the same as i have (7800) and i have 3dacceleration since kernel 2.4.24 and 2.6.1, so it works without problems, but it's not that new (it's ok for playing tuxracer and using scientific opengl apps, but framerate falls if things get too complex)
the radeon 9100 i dont know, but i know 9200 working fine on a machine at the university

Thanks for the reply. My use is for scientific gl stuff, ie, visualization related to 3D finite-element studies. That's why I considered the 7500. Though the 9100 looks like a nice price/performance card.
Again, thanks a bunch for you comments,
Kev

you're welcome
hmm ... the 9100 has twice the memory of the 7500 ... this can be worth having a look ...
did you google around for the 9100 and linux?

i found now trying ... i think because i used dino3d for some proteins and if i open a protein-complex with my 7800(64mb), it very fast has some momentum in rendering --- but i cannot upgrade to any, because it's a laptop :-)
have also a look at other opinions, mine is only one of many
