Best way of handling Fn-F7/screen-switching with X220 laptop

Running AwesomeWM on a Thinkpad X220.  What is the best way of managing switching screen output (VGA/Displayport/screen)?  A number of suggestions here: http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/Sample_Fn-F7_script  (one of these at least, grandr, doesn't seem to work - it segfaults). 

Does anyone have suggestions for an easy/robust way of handling screen switching?
