issue is sometimes when my monitor goes to sleep, no matter what I do it wont wake up. I am using gnome latest and gdm for login. I have a ATI R7 card could that be causing this issue.

I have the same issue from time to time. What I've noticed is, it happens when my machine has been running for a while. Could your graphics card be over heating?
Offline
I doubt over heating is occurring as i have windows on the system and even after playing games GPU seems ok.

I sometimes lose my LCD. Logging in through ssh and running xrandr shows that it's connected, but disabled. Also, dmesg contains messages about invalid EDID, suggesting that this may be caused by brief cable disconnection or EMI.
Simply enabling the display with xrandr helps.
Try binding this to some keyboard hotkey (substituting output name and mode, obviously):
xrandr --output HDMI-0 --mode 1600x1200Last edited by mich41 (2015-11-09 21:17:01)

But why doesn't it happen in windows, what do you suspect it being a hardware issue or software issue?

Mixed issue
Originally, something unusual happens in hardware. I don't know how exactly software reacts to it, but the end result is that software doesn't use the output, is aware that it doesn't use the output and doesn't attempt to reenable it without user intervention.
Maybe Windows behaves differently or maybe the three people in this thread have four different problems ![]()
