Start xorg in background on different vt for kiosk system

Hi,

working on a browser based kiosk installation I ran into an issue with the actual startup of the browser (autologin -> x -> matchbox -> fullscreen browser). The system style is generally black, but the starting browser shows several seconds of white screen. Not a functional problem, but looks ugly.

My plan to work around it was to start x and browser on a different vt, keep vt1 clean with boot splash turned on and then switch to different vt as soon as the loading there is completely done.

Logind session prevents starting X on different vt, to circumvent this, I have an autologin on a different vt as well, but x is not started there until I actually switch there. I guess it needs to be in foreground to be marked as active or something.

Any idea on how to deal with this? Also any different approach on the initial problem is welcome.

Thank you in advance.

Other approaches:

  • Don't worry about it tongue

  • Convince the browser to show a black screen while loading.

  • Start some simple app/script right before launching the browser and make it show a black window on top of the browser until the latter finishes loading.
