Then perhaps you should edit the title to reflect that the problem is with yaourt.  Perhaps "Yaourt gives errors downloading .sig files..."

If that were the title it might attract those who can help, and allow people like me to move on to the next thread without being tempted to comment unproductively on where we think the blame lies.

Re: Why do I get errors dowloading .sig files for official repositories?

I don't use Yaourt so can't comment on that, but i have changed my xfer command to use aria2 and I get errors on the sig files very similar to the ones at the bottom of your first code block.  The second code block appears to be output from a plain curl command, so perhaps modifying the tittle to include a reference to aria2 might be more appropriate.

I'll also be loking for any answers that you manage to attract, but I'm afraid I can't help there much as I've not spent a whole lot of time trying to track it down.

I don't find it very likely that yaourt is causing the problem; powerpill is the only component with rsync integration.

I can't fit any more characters into the title space; I did rewrite it a couple times for the very reasons you specified.

This was the most consice and correct title I could come up with; I do not know why this is happening and I am not sure what is the cause.

It would be counter-productive to start by blaming yaourt for the same reasons you've given.

I'm using yaourt with powerpill which uses aria2 to download. I agree this is suggestive that the problem is related to aria2.

Do you use powerpill at all?

Off topic: I often find packages and other things that need to be checked against hashes fail such checks when downloaded by aria2; have you had that kind of problem? My impression is that aria2 downloads are somehow not exact copies of the original file, although they do not seem to suffer from any practical corruption.

Re: Why do I get errors dowloading .sig files for official repositories?

Sorry, then perhaps you could clarify and/or do some tests.  From my reading of your first post, yaourt failed while pacman worked.  But now it sounds like yaouirt + powerpill + aria2 fails while vanilla pacman works?

Do some tests to figure out which tool is the common factor: yaourt, powerpill, or aria2.  Then you can revise the title to focus on the tool you need help with.

No, I'm afraid I don't use Powerpill.  Parallel downloads would not make sense with my internet connection.  I just switched out my xfer command according to the Wiki (https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Im … erformance).  I only made the change three or four weeks ago and I've only used aria2 in pacman for my weekly upgrades.  I am getting the Exception and Abstract Errors on the .sig files as you have in your posted code block, then once I get the .sig files everything works fine after that.

Re: Why do I get errors dowloading .sig files for official repositories?

It's quite simple: you're using DatabaseOptional as your SigLevel for the official repos. Optional implies that pacman should attempt to download them, but ignore any failure if they can't be fetched. pacman's internal downloader quietly ignores errors (404 in your case) for signatures, but external downloaders don't do this.

Either ignore the errors, or (not recommended) use DatabaseNever as your SigLevel.

I have made some edits to that post, but it's all there.

Thank you. This is another reason for wording my title as I did; in case downloading .sig files is impossible, unnecessary, or unimportant to begin with. I will switch to DatabaseNever for now as this does waste significant time. Do those database signature files even exist?

EDIT: hmm.... it seems I am already using DatabaseNever. Here's an excerpt form pacman.conf:

# By default, pacman accepts packages signed by keys that its local keyring
# trusts (see pacman-key and its man page), as well as unsigned packages.
#SigLevel    = Required DatabaseOptional
SigLevel    = Required DatabaseNever
LocalFileSigLevel = Optional
#RemoteFileSigLevel = Required

The individual repositories do not have overriding options specified. Could powerpill be ignoring these settings?

Everyone's going to shit on me for necro-bumping, as if this thread isn't at the top of google results for certain queries--but the solution here is setting

SigLevel    = PackageRequired

in pacman.conf.

On your first post, no less.   Closing
