I did a pacman -Sy (after putting it off for a few months) Was able to get my system updated and such but now the OSS portion of the sound won't work. I followed the instructions as per: http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Alsa But still OSS refuses to play any sound. Trying to play something in XMMS will show it playing but nothing comes from my speakers.
A work around I found is that everytime I fire up the X server, I run alsaconf from a terminal window as root then OSS works and so does ALSA. I'm probably missing something simple. But any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again.
