[SOLVED] Problems with Nvidia card and boot

Hi, i recently bought a new ASUS laptop and installed arch. I had already been using in my previous one. I experienced lots of problems because after finally finishing install i saw that arch didn't recognise the graphics card(Nvidia GeForce GT940M ). When i installed the drivers (.run file) i couldn't boot. After installing and uninstalling lots of times both nvidia from pacman and drivers now i can boot but i cant login through gnome. When i press the passwd it drives me back to the login screen again. When i boot i have some errors from nouveau.

Any answer would be really helpfull !

Uninstall nouveau. Uninstall those manual drivers you installed. Install the nvidia package and the corresponding packages according to the nvidia wiki article. Then post the output of lspci (or maybe just the VGA lines). If this is a recent laptop with a GT(X)9xx, then chances are it has an Optimus setup. If so, read the NVIDIA Optimus and bumblebee wiki articles.

Re: [SOLVED] Problems with Nvidia card and boot

Thnx for the reply. Well i managed to boot the pc. I have already uninstalled nouveau and installed nvidia package. I couldnt boot because when i was uninstalling the manual nvidia drivers the default option deleted the X screens! and the computer couldnt login! Now i can use it but i dont think that the drivers of the card are installed. How can i be sure if it has an Optimus setup and i wont have problems?

The output of lspci:

You have both an Intel integrated GPU and an NVIDIA GPU, so this should be an Optimus setup. You should read the Wiki article. smile
