xf86-video-qxl broken on xorg 1.18?

I made a comment on the AUR package, but got to get this working again soon.

I did the xorg 1.18 update. first removed xf86-video-qxl (AUR) due to conflict, then updated, then installed new xf86-video-qxl from AUR again. there were some mesa libs as well but not much.

reboot I get xorg black screen locked up:

EDIT: reposted the cleaned log. relevant part:

[ 3.087] (WW) Warning, couldn't open module qxl

if I remove xf86-video-qxl I can boot into DE just fine.

I run lightdm, xfce, linux-grsec, spice-vdagent. spice-vdagent still works. little custom config.

any ideas of something I might try to get this thing working again? I'm all out.

Re: xf86-video-qxl broken on xorg 1.18?

I tried with regular linux kernel and though it's not the problem - same bug - using regular kernel provides more info in journalctl that wasn't being reported under grsec (or it's random - journal recording's being inconsistent...).

full boot log:

-- Logs begin at Sat 2015-11-14 11:58:41 EST, end at Mon 2015-11-23 19:21:22 EST. --
Nov 23 19:19:50 xxxxxx systemd-journald[147]: Runtime journal (/run/log/journal/) is currently using 8.0M.
Maximum allowed usage is set to 75.0M.
Leaving at least 112.6M free (of currently available 742.8M of space).
Enforced usage limit is thus 75.0M, of which 67.0M are still available.

Re: xf86-video-qxl broken on xorg 1.18?

nothing I do makes any difference (xorg.conf, etc.). log obviously says monitor config missing but what else is there to try? (apart from starting from scratch)

when I look on x.org mirrors the package xf86-video-qxl-0.1.4.tar.bz2 was last updated 04/02/2015. there are some Fedora qxl bugs since then fixed. xf86-video-qxl-0.1.4.tar.bz2 looks due for an update. but why no one else get this.

figures the time I most depend on spice/qxl this shit happens. good thing I only update one machine. hello wall.

Re: xf86-video-qxl broken on xorg 1.18?

found workaround:
add:
nomodeset
to  /vmlinuz-linux[-grsec] boot line in grub.

with this, qxl driver loads completely (xrandr: "qxl-0" screens) and no crashes. but if remove qxl driver, nomodeset prevents boot, so this is not a fix.

verified on a machine with xorg 1.17 in Xorg.0.log with qxl working, that it had KMS disabled. looks as though upgrade to 1.18 or other caused KMS to enable. qxl on arch broken with KMS enable.
