I've been messing about with this for a while now and I can't seem to nail down what the problem actually is... I've just finished an installation of Arch on my Asus X205TA (which was a massive pain in its own right) but even before then, when it had Windows on it, the mousepad was still kind of broken. So here's my problem: whenever I move the mouse with the mousepad, it clicks down or something. I'm not sure. So when I'm in a terminal in XFCE4, I literally can't type anything or do anything because it starts selecting the text in the terminal and I can't click out of it. It will remain in the "selecting" state until I click the pad in a certain way, which I'm still not sure of. Sometimes it unclicks when I touch the side of the mouse pad, which is odd. Sometimes it unclicks when I press down on the corner of the mousepad. Sometimes it unclicks simply by double clicking. I've tried plugging in an external mouse, which kind of works - the left mouse button doesn't seem to want to work at all but I think that's just the drivers for that particular mouse playing up so that's not really my main concern. Simply moving the mousepad, not clicking, will cause it to click. So if I'm on the desktop moving the mouse around, it will start selecting as if I am holding the mouse button down. It does not do this when I move the mouse around with my external mouse so it is definitely something to do with the mousepad. Also, when I start typing in something like terminal, the mousepad will randomly switch to it's "selecting" mode where I can't type any more because it's selecting. I believe this happens because I am resting my arms either side of the mousepad when I type? I'm really not sure. I believe this because if I lift my arms well above the mousepad and type, everything is fine but that's obviously fairly uncomfortable. I'm quite sure I am not accidentally leaning on the mousepad when I type, I have both arms resting either side of the mousepad when I type.
I have tried modifying the 50-synaptics.conf settings as explained here https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/To … figuration but that doesn't seem to have helped. I tried turning Option "TapButton2" "2" to 0 and I also tried turning both Option "FingerLow" "35" and Option "FingerHigh" "40" to ridiculous levels out of range of the sensitivity (1000, and 0 respectively) because I assumed it might have had something to do with the touch sensitivity...
Like I said, this problem occurred within Windows as well, which is odd but I only had Windows installed for about an hour before I uninstalled it and installed Arch so I didn't get much of a chance to test it in Windows. I'm posting here because I'm running Arch, not Windows, so I figured I might be able to get some help here.
Thanks.
