If I for instance type in 'Terminal' (without the qoutation marks) in the Deskbar-applet it will suggest the following: Launch Terminal (gnome-terminal), but when I press it, Deskbar-applet crashes everytime, actually it does that with many things when it suggests to Launch something
Is anyone else experiencing that behaviour?
Regards,
Simon

Just tried what you said and it crashed.

please try to give terminal output and such instead of just saying, it does not work.
I just checked for the cli output when crashing, it is
Match selected: <programs.GenericProgramMatch instance at 0xb6470a0c>
/opt/gnome/lib/deskbar-applet/handlers/programs.py:64: GtkWarning: gdk_screen_get_display: assertion `GDK_IS_SCREEN (screen)' failed
self._desktop.launch([])
I'll see if I can find a solution.

pressh, I would have liked to have given error messages, but I did not know how to catch them from the Deskbar-applet :-)

you can run applets from cli. for deskbar applet the following command runs it in its own window
/opt/gnome/lib/deskbar-applet/deskbar-applet -w

Okay, thanks for the info, I'll make use of that next time, should such a problem occur

this might be well related to the problem
Initializing Programs
(deskbar-applet:4819): Gnome-WARNING **: gnome-program.c:1015: Directory properties not set correctly. Cannot locate application specific files.
[edit]
quick question, was it working before, as in the 2.14.0 version ?
because in /opt/gnome/lib/deskbar-applet/handlers/programs.py there is
# FIXME: This does not launch the App with passed parameters because they are not files..
#self._desktop.launch(text.split(" "), deskbar.gnomedesktop.LAUNCH_APPEND_PATHS|deskbar.gnomedesktop.LAUNCH_ONLY_ONE)
and version 2.14 also doesn't work out of the box on my machine

I'm almost certain that it didn't work either in the 2.14.0 version, since I just upgraded to 2.14.1 today, and I believe I experienced these problems already a week ago when trying the Deskbar-applet

It seems that it is related to gnome applications only, which makes sense from my previous post. I'm going to look a bit deeper into libgnome, which could be the package giving these problems.

I'm having the same problem. Didn't have it with 2.14.0. The problem occured just recently after an update a few days ago.

Everything's fine now again after the latest update. Thanks devs

The new Deskbar-applet update seems to have solved the problem now :-)
