AMD Catalyst propriety drivers bad performance

Alright, so today I actually successfully installed the Catalyst driver and this time the machine actually booted. However, the performance seems to be sub-par to what I got on other distros. I wanted the proprietary driver because on the open source driver certain games (Such as Minecraft etc.) don't get very good FPS, whereas on the proprietary driver it has on other distros. I haven't tried Minecraft's performance yet but I can guess that it would probably be even worse than on the open source drivers as it is right now. Windows like to drag way behind when I attempt to drag them and there is sort of "stuttering" when I click and hold, dragging my cursor across the desktop.

Edit: I ended up just removing the driver and putting the OS driver back on. Problem sorta solved.

Re: AMD Catalyst propriety drivers bad performance

That's a bit strange. Normally the Catalyst driver works well for games like Minecraft on Arch and achieves performance that is very similar to running on Windows.

Re: AMD Catalyst propriety drivers bad performance

You mean the open source ATI drivers? Actually, those always perform better for me than the Catalyst drivers when it comes to desktop usage, but when it comes to gaming usage I only get around a max of 45fps (I usually get around 80-100+ without vsync)

Re: AMD Catalyst propriety drivers bad performance

I meant Catalyst works much better for me than the Open Source driver. When I tried the Open Source driver a few weeks ago, I experienced freezes in X, especially when running 3-D applications such as Minecraft. Never had any problems with Catalyst.

Which catalyst package were you using? I'm running catalyst-total from AUR.

Which desktop environment or window manager are you using? I'm on KDE.

I was using catalyst-test with XFCE
