Enlightenment 20 fails to autoadjust screen resolution in VirtualBox

Hi,

I have Arch Linux installed on a VirtualBox VM, with VirtualBox Guest Additions 5.0.10 installed (which I have tried installing using pacman and using the run installer provided by the VirtualBox extension pack, both methods worked without any errors given and VBGA seems to be working without a hitch on every other desktop, except Enlightenment 20) but for some reason Enlightenment 20 (E20) is stuck at 800x600 screen resolution, even though my other desktops are autoadjusting their screen resolution just fine. The strange thing too is that my bidirectional clipboard is working fine on all desktops, including E20. What I have tried to solve this problem is what I did to solve this problem on an openSUSE Tumbleweed VM (and yes it did work) which was I installed the x11-video-nvidia driver, or what I thought it's equivalent was on Arch: nvidia. I followed the ArchWiki's instructions on this, issuing

lspci -k | grep -A 2 -E "(VGA|3D)"

which gave the output:

. I was unsure as to what this meant as to my graphics card so I just installed

nvidia

with pacman and ran

nvidia-xconfig

as root with no errors. But after rebooting I was stuck at this screen:

How did I install E20? Well I used a series of PKGBUILDs (with the other PKGBUILDs being for its dependencies) I created in my own GitHub repo to install it, as you may have noticed Enlightenment and related packages in official Arch repos is out of date.

I'm running E20 on native hardware; haven't yet tried it in a VM. However, I am sure you do not want to run the nvidia driver ("nvidia" is the proprietary hardware driver) inside the VM; that is why things are getting stuck. The vboxvideo driver is definitely the one you should be using.

Thanks for replying, I followed the ArchWiki guide for Arch VirtualBox guests and I found out that:

/etc/modules-load.d/virtualbox.conf

already existed and had all three modules listed at the ArchWiki. I also ran

systemctl enable vboxservice

(as root ofc) and found out that the vboxservice was already enabled. So I'm afraid while you may be on the right track it is not as simple as I was hoping based on your answer. I also ran

modprobe -a vboxguest vboxsf vboxvideo

as root to start these modules manually and it made no difference to the screen resolution, even after restarting E20.

@Xironman I had not tried that, but I just did and it didn't work. I also tried adding it to autostart apps for MATE and Enlightenment, with no effect.

I'm sure you don't want to hear me say "works for me", but it works for me. I installed E20 to a VM using updated PKGBUILDs in the same way you did (except I left out all the documentation builds), and everything works fine; 1680x1050 screen, mouse behavior is good, etc. Sure smells like a Guest Additions issue, though it appears you installed everything needed. Just in case, here are a few relevant package lists from my VM:
