KDEInit could not launch 'kwrite'

Can someone explain why this happens in Arch and in no other distro. This message is the response I get when attempting to edit fstab in superuser file manager.

I can't help much other than to say I've encountered it on numerous distros and in several versions of KDE. I've meant to check the KDE bug reports but just keep forgetting. I have noticed that a login/out generally fixes the issue so my thinking is that it might be a session problem.

I've had this issue before too, from back when i used Mandrake (before it was Mandriva), I always just ended up reinstalling KDE (keep in mind, I was still somewhat new to Linux at the time).

I realized that my PATHs variable isnt properly set, you dont have /opt/kde/bin in your PATHs file, su in the console and try to call it from there, you'll probably see that it cant find it.. Adjust your PATHs and you should be fine.

I had this exact same issue on my CentOS server, you should be able to set it through tbe KDE control panel also (although I'm not sure exactly what setting you have, hopefully someone who knows KDE a bit better can fill you in)

There is a setting for 'paths' in the Control Center, but not for the variable you are discussing.

Just rebooted from an overnight power-down and now 'kwrite' launches.
Checked 'su' environment and path includes /opt/kde/bin.
????
