I would recommend against it, you can clearly see why by looking at frank604's example. Wait until it stabilizes, perhaps until project sputnik comes out, maybe even a few versions after that. Then, one BIOS update should do it. At least that is what I intended to do.

I just shipped my xps out for rma. The bios updates from 1.0 didn't really provide us with any noticeable benefits. Wait for a stable bios upgrade with benefits to be pushed out. Just my 2 cents.

As of now 1.0.5 is the last stable bios.

Gnome worked out of the box for me no fiddling needed. In xfce I needed to make adjustments to the dpi settings as per instructions in the wiki.

For thos wondering, I could successfully downgrade the bios to 1.0.5 version.
As expected, tlp does not detect nvme device anymore but dmesg is way cleaner.

i downgraded then upgraded to 1.1.7 because of battery bug not recognizing status .... also there is a lot of dmesg errors because of correct device reporting i think ...
p.s. also my dell is running slightly hotter with 1.0.5

Hey guys again!
I just installed Fedora Cinnamon 23 on my laptop and it works really well. I had to do the following:

- Add the rawhide kernel repo (to get automatic kernel updates, I'm on 4.4-rc4) (http://alt.fedoraproject.org/pub/alt/ra … debug.repo)
- Add the commandline options pcie_aspm=force i915.enable_rc6=7 to improve power?
- Add the bcm4350 firmware binary (//git.kernel.org/cgit/linux/kernel/git/firmware/linux-firmware.git/plain/brcm/brcmfmac4350-pcie.bin) to /lib/firmware
- Added DMC/GUC firmwares, although one of them was already there in my system.

Everything works worderful: wifi, brightness, keybd brightness, HiDIP resolution scaling (cinnamon), suspending & rebooting (the boot it's quite fast too).

Things that dont work so far:

- After suspend touch screen does not work!?

Edit:
I had no issues with the NVME disk at all (im using LUKS crypted storage) nor other drivers. I understand some of you had. My laptop is the QHD+ / 256GB disk

Did you happen to check with Powertop if there's a difference in idle power usage? I have the exact same model as you and I cannot get it to idle below 7W.

I don't have the touchscreen problem, is there anything interesting in dmesg after suspend?

If your system wasn't configured to create a host-only initramfs or you used the rescue initramfs it indeed works fine, but if you otherwise don't have the nvme module the drive would not be available.

I noticed that I forgot to upgrade the linux-firmware package: the latest one does include all the i915 firmware. The only one missing that needs manual installation is the Bluetooth one. Thanks!

Has anyone tried hibernating with kernel 4.4? With the systemd default mode of 'platform' the computer does not power down for me: the hibernation image is written, the screen turns off, but the laptop stays on. Using the 'shutdown' mode does seem to work fine (it can be edited in /etc/systemd/sleep.conf).

For me suspend randomly fails: Sometimes it will suspend the laptop, sometimes it wont

BTW do we need BT firmware? I didnt use any and it worked out of the box with fedora 23.

I haven't had suspend fail yet. Shutdown has got stuck sometimes due to a 'rmmod' process not terminating, but it finishes up eventually after systemd times it out and kills it.

Without the firmware the BT device seems available, but doesn't actually work: it doesn't show up in any other device's detection, or connects to anything. With the firmware everything works fine.

GNOME should take care of that. I didn't try rebooting yet, but I will to see if it still works.

Is it really necessary to calibrate the screen? Where did you get that file from anyway?

I'm a bit curious since you guys have some conf files (in your github repos) but my laptop just works out of the box without them (specifically https://github.com/zetxx/dotfiles/tree/ … rg.conf.d).
I'll play a bit with TLP and the headphones as well, since I haven't really looked into those yet.

It isn't necessary but sometimes we need to calibrate to match a photo print in real color. For example, your screen may be extremely blue. It doesn't look like it but the red and green are weaker. When you print, the print colors will differ than the screen. For photo editors this can be a nightmare as your prints will be "off"

Things can work out of box but we like to tweak them. Use a different accelerator aka glamour. Or set some other param to customize our system to our needs or preference. If you are happy with the defaults you are more than welcome to stick to it. Hope that answers your questions.

dell 9350 doesn't brightness censor, we do not have auto-brightness on our laptops, may be you are talking about an earlier model?

I'm really sure I have the 9350, USB-C and all, and my screen dims when I have dark content, brightens up when I have white content
