Problem with keyboard in X

Hi ..., when using the tty console, I don't have any problem.  As soon as I run X, the keyboard layout changes and obviously I'm typing some wrong characters (driving me nuts).  Same when I use 'i3' in X using Xterm or any other terminal - Ive tried a few.

Can someone please help .............

Re: Problem with keyboard in X

Please elaborate.  What characters are coming out wrong?  What do you expect to happen and how does this differ from what you experience?

Have you made any locale/language/keymap changes in the tty?  Or in X?

What is the output of `locale` from the tty and from xterm?

Do you use a en/US/qwerty keyboard layout, or something else?  If something else, what have you don't to configure it (in tty, and in X)?

Re: Problem with keyboard in X

I have solved the problem with  - setxkbmap gb in .xinitrc

BUT,

After making that change to .xinitrc - 'i3' won't run in X anymore, it just starts and closes immediately ............

Can anyone help with this please ........

Re: Problem with keyboard in X

How exactly do you start X? Post your ~/.xinitrc.

Re: Problem with keyboard in X

Hi, I start X from the command line - startx.

Sorry I'm not yet able to paste documents here yet .......

The only change I made to .xinitrc was to add exec i3 and comment out exec xterm etc. and i3 started ok but, the keyboard output to the terminal.was corrupt.

So I added setxkbmap gb to .xinitrc (which solved my keyboard problem in X , but since doing that I am unable to start  i3 at all, even after commenting out setxkbmap gb.

Thanks

Thanks

Re: Problem with keyboard in X

i3 does run with  startx/usr/bin/i3  but still the keyboard output is corrupt.

But still won't run from .xinitrc

I can't find anything in the logs.

Thanks
