Problems with Samsung Printer CLP-315 in the network - Splix error

Hallo everyone,

I've just discovered, that printing with my Samsung CLP-315 from a remote computer is not working anymore. Printing from the local computer, where the printer is attached via usb is working. As printing system I use cups. I configured everything according to the Arch wiki. As driver I use the splix package from community on both computers (Samsung/CLP-315).

The error message in the printer queue is: "Splix Cannot open CMS file /usr/share/cups/profiles/samsung/CLP-315cms (2)". When printing a Test site also the following error occurs: "Splix CMS data are missing. Color correction aborted". Printing a self test site ist working though.

The remote URI is: ipp://hostname/printers/Samsung_CLP-310_Series

To quote the install file:

Installation of the color profile for color printers:
-----------------------------------------------------

Color printers needs color profile files to get better results. These
files are provided by your printer manufacturer and you have to install them
manually. To do that, download the linux official drivers and locate the "cms"
directory. Install them with the command:

		# make installcms CMSDIR=/path/to/cms/directory \
			MANUFACTURER=samsung or xerox or dell

Samsung color profile files are available at:
		(Then use MANUFACTURER=samsung)

		http://splix.ap2c.org/samsung_cms.tar.bz2

You will probably need to adjust the PKGBUILD to also install the cms files.

The splix website lists the CLP-315 as untested; you could flick them an email if it works.

Re: Problems with Samsung Printer CLP-315 in the network - Splix error

Thank you for the answer. I will have a look on that. The strange thing is, that the splix drivers are working fine on the local machine. Only the remote computer throws errors and do not print. However, to avoid that problem I used the avahi service with starting the cups-browsed.service according to the arch wiki. The printer is then found by cups in the network as remote printer and set up automatically. I don't know why this is working and manually installing is not working even if the URI is the same. At least I can print now from every computer in the network.

Ahh, sorry. Obviously I didn't read your original question properly hmm

Does

/usr/share/cups/profiles/samsung/CLP-315cms

exist on the 'local' machine, ie the machine with the printer connected?

Hmm; maybe this is an unrelated issue.

What is in the CUPS error log on the machine that won't print? If you are still interested, that is; if it is working fine, you might just want to mark this thread as solved.
