gnome 2.14 keyboard shortcut for increase/decrease sound

I have assigned these keys for increase sound : fn+F8 and fn+F7 to decrease sound. It has really funny behaviour. I hold fn and press F7 once and it will keep on decreasing sound until I release fn.. same is for increasing sound..

I remember in 2.12 it wasnt like this and this is really disturbing.. I have to have mad timing skills to have the sound level I want..

is there anyone else with the same problem?

I also have that with my laptop. But on my workstation it works fine. I think it got something to do with the fn keys. The Ubuntu Live-CD also just works fine with my laptop fn-keys.
