Hello,
PHP 7 will be soon released, and I wonder if PHP7 will be released in replacement of PHP5 or if there will be a PHP7 package.
PHP7 brings some backward compatibility breaks (as others minor versions did too), but also a ton of extensions will not compatible the day of the releaseand a lot of SAPI dropped, which archlinux still provide pakcages for. You can check http://php.net/manual/fr/migration70.re … -sapis.php to have a complete list.
That's why I think it's preferable to create a php7 package (or a php5 so "php" becomes 7). You could say we're gonna just do like always, php will becomes php7 an community will maintain a php5 package on AUR, as there is a php53 package or php54. This is not a random major version, it is a similar story to python2 => python3.
What you guys think ?

Generally, the "php" package would be updated to the latest version and a "php5" package created if it's really necessary. That will all be up to the maintainer.
