[SOLVED] /sys/class/backlight empty

I have been trying to troubleshoot my missing brightness slider in GNOME shell. I have installed nvidiabl, put it as a module in mkinipcio.conf, put the option to enable backlight control in both xorg.conf and 20-nvidia.conf, put acpi backlight vendor in my efistub config, and it still doesn't work!!! The /sys/class/backlight folder is empty and at boot systemd complains that it couldn't load kernel modules! I'm obviously missing a trick here, am I not? Please reply if you have any, any suggestions.

Sanity check, you did rebuilt your initial ram disk right?:

sudo mkinitcpio -p linux

Yes, definitively!

I have a suspicion that brightness control  only works for laptop lcds, whereas I am using a Dell U2711 beastly CCFL 27" monitor connected to a full tower via DP!
Am I right? Otherwise, this entire thread is redundant sad
