Audio stopped working, pulse appears to be playing

This past week I took my computer off an LDAP/NFS setup (so I have a new /home/user/ directory), and did a pacman -Syu -- the terrible mistake of doing two potentially problematic things at once.  When I come in this morning and sit down at the desktop, I can no longer get any audio to come out of speakers or headphones.  I've tried plugging into both rear and front jack.  I've opened pavucontrol and I see that under output devices, the correct port is selected, says "plugged in", and shows audio being played (though nothing comes out of speakers).  In alsamixer I selected the audio card that's being used, and double checked that the volumes are up and it's not muted.  I've futzed around with modprobe.conf options, and I've switched to using the -lts kernel, all to no avail.

Please help!  Any ideas?

Play something, then run `pacmd list`, and attach here.

Re: Audio stopped working, pulse appears to be playing

OK - attached.  Nothing here jumps out to me as an obvious fix, but I don't know very much about this stuff.  Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Re: Audio stopped working, pulse appears to be playing

I have a similar issue. With current kernel I cannot hear any sound thougth HDMI output, with LTS kernel sound works perfectly. I use pulseaudio, and the weird thing is that with VLC I have not any problem with the sound.

Re: Audio stopped working, pulse appears to be playing

OK - the most likely cause right now seems to be the kernel, though that's made less likely that I see the problem for both current and LTS kernel.  I'm guessing I could probably fix it by instructing the correct model for the also module, but I don't know what that is for my card.  I'm not sure if it's even possible, but does anyone know a way to attempt to figure out the right model for a motherboard built-in sound card?

Re: Audio stopped working, pulse appears to be playing

Did this ever work before? You have a Creative likely Soundcore3d onboard card (CA0132) , they are notorious for having pretty much non working drivers. anything  in dmesg regarding the CA0132 module?

Re: Audio stopped working, pulse appears to be playing

dmesg and journalctl both looking clean (can't find any warnings or errors there related to audio).  The setup has worked well with audio prior to this, I've had it for probably around a year.  I haven't deleted my packages, I'm going to see if I can go back to an old kernel still laying around and if that'll fix it.  This won't be an actual solution, as then my gcc will be out of sync with my kernel, (or my gcc will be out of sync with every other package).

Re: Audio stopped working, pulse appears to be playing

I have no idea what of my many fiddlings did it, but I had to reboot for something unrelated, and when it came back up, the audio worked perfectly.  I wish I had any idea at all what I did to suggest to others, but for now I'll just be thankful that the gremlins in my machine have decided to give me music back.
