Solved: Kernel panic with MSI MS-7865/AM1i board / Athlon 5350

Getting seemingly-random kernel panics with a new MSI MS-7865/AM1i board, new Athlon 5350, new 4G DDR3 RAM. First I thought the memory was bad, but the Arch image's memory test passes.

Crashes have occurred with a fresh Arch install when running gcc, during routine tasks, and now during running pacstrap from a USB stick attempting to re-install on a different disk. Even file system corruption occurred :-(

Here's a (literal) screen shot. No idea what to make of it.

Are you using some usb wifi adapter? Seems its driver in the kernel is not working well. Are you using the latest iso (2016.01.01) btw?

@tom.ty89: you may be correct about the WiFi driver. I changed adapters/chipsets, and so far it has not crashed. Holding my breath ... Latest ISO vs some a few months old did not seem to have made a difference. Will update later...

@newbie1962: not clear to me that this is the same problem. Other than kernel panic, which can have gazillions of reasons, why do you think it is?

tom.ty89 was right: something changed probably upstream related to the WiFi driver I had been using successfully for a year or so, which caused the kernel panic. Others have reported similar issues in other distros. For now, I am using a different WiFi stick with a different chip set, and the kernel crash has not happened again.
