The error isn't in the log, but if I remember correctly it was two "duplicate target errors." "pacman -Q" can't find it installed though. I've tried reinstalling but I start getting "The next patch would create the file x, which already exists!  Assume -R? [n]" messages and aren't sure how to proceed there.

Would expect patching errors from makepkg not pacman
If it is pacman please post the full output of that pacman run.
If it is makepkg does using the --cleanbuild parameter solve it?
If it then produces the original duplicate target errors please post the full output from running makepkg.

Re: [SOLVED] ath10k backports installed and running, not recognizing...

Well, I think I'm all set!

@loqs was right, my copying board.bin to board-2.bin was causing my "invalid board magic" error. Looking at other peoples' forum posts I saw they had working wifi even with those errors at startup, so I tried wicd instead of wifi-menu and I'm now posting this connected to wifi!

So at the end of the day the fix to my problem seems to have been using backports-20151120 instead of the latest ones, and using something other than wifi-menu.

Thanks so much to all of you for taking the time to try to help!

If this is solved, please edit your first post in the thread and prepend [SOLVED] to the thread title.  We ask that you do this as only you know when it is really solved big_smile
