I've done everything that the wiki says and I'm still left with no sound and an output of:
ALSA lib confmisc.c:674:(snd_determine_driver) could not open control for card 0
ALSA lib conf.c:4241:(_snd_config_evaluate) function snd_func_card_driver returned error: Invalid argument
ALSA lib confmisc.c:392:(snd_func_concat) error evaluating strings
ALSA lib conf.c:4241:(_snd_config_evaluate) function snd_func_concat returned error: Invalid argument
ALSA lib confmisc.c:1251:(snd_func_refer) error evaluating name
ALSA lib conf.c:4241:(_snd_config_evaluate) function snd_func_refer returned error: Invalid argument
ALSA lib conf.c:4720:(snd_config_expand) Evaluate error: Invalid argument
ALSA lib pcm.c:2217:(snd_pcm_open_noupdate) Unknown PCM sysdefault
I'm completely stumped.

I don't play TF2 but I've had a similar problem with GRID Autosport - it runs perfectly apart from no audio. This is the only game or software I have this problem with though.
I found a solution in this thread. Prefacing Steam with
export LD_PRELOAD="/usr/lib/libasound.so.2"results in working audio. I reported it to Feral before Christmas.

Sorry, I've fixed my problem. You NEED to install pulseaudio but the wiki says otherwise. I don't think the Steam runtime supports just plain Alsa.
