Chromium causing computer to freeze

I have an issue with my ssd on linux it freezes randomly and all i can do is reboot
I wasnt sure if its ssd but now i am cause yesterday when it froze i had data loss(All my downloads folder content was gone) today it froze again and when i started up my fresh arch install it told me i have no operating system installed...
It does happen on other distros aswell but so far no data losses.
Does any have any solution for this ,i tried googling and brought up bigger picture(something to do with low power) but most of the fix stuff in windows tools things

Re: Chromium causing computer to freeze

sudo cat /sys/class/scsi_host/host*/link_power_management_policy
min_power
min_power

I changed those values to max_performance and see what happens
seems like its common problem for ssd-s so i will reply back in few days to see if it did work.

Could you be more specific about what is being lost / corrupted?
Is is the partition table, file system corruption ,  file system passes fsck but files are missing / damaged etc.
What does smart indicate about the health of the sdd SMART
Does it pass a smart short / extended test?

Re: Chromium causing computer to freeze

journalctl -b -1
Failed to look up boot -1: No such boot ID in journal

after freeze shows no logs from last boot yet there was a log when i checked it...

SMART overall-health self-assessment test result: PASSED
SMART Self-test log structure revision number 1
Num  Test_Description    Status                  Remaining  LifeTime(hours)  LBA_of_first_error
# 1  Short offline       Completed without error       00%      2177         -

there was also long test but it doesnt show it so im missing files from last boot
dmsg also showing only this boot

Re: Chromium causing computer to freeze

I switched to hdd and still getting those freezes no matter what distro i use so it has to be hardware

I was able to check journalctl this time and it shows this sometimes
CPU0: Core temperature above threshold, cpu clock throttled (total events = 1)
CPU1: Core temperature above threshold, cpu clock throttled (total events = 1)
CPU2: Core temperature above threshold, cpu clock throttled (total events = 1)
CPU3: Core temperature above threshold, cpu clock throttled (total events = 1)

CPU0: Core temperature above threshold, cpu clock throttled (total events = 2)

but at the freeze time theres nothing and then goes on with reboot log etc
its not arch issue so i think i should find help somewhere else?

I'm curious, do you use kde? If so you might want to try to uninstall "libcanberra-pulse" see: Chromium@#Troubleshooting

Re: Chromium causing computer to freeze

Chromium was freezing for me on the linux 4.3 kernel but when I installed 4.4 from the 'Testing' repo chromium no longer froze.  Not sure if this would fix your problem, but might be worth a try.
