mplayer & mkv -> no subs

I am trying to play a mkv video file, but doesnt show any subtitles.. I am using mplayer-cvs from the aur right now.

I thought of trying totem(have never used totem before) but it cant even open any multimedia files, saying something about codecs not being installed..

I googled and found out that I should install totem-gstreamer.. but not found in pacman. which packets do I install to make totem work with video files????

Re: mplayer & mkv -> no subs

When you installed totem, the following message was displayed:

==> Totem has been built with GStreamer. By default, totem does not depend
==> on any GStreamer plugin.
==> To play media files, install the corresponding gstreamer0.10-[codec] package.

Does that clarify things for you?

Re: mplayer & mkv -> no subs

found a way to display the subs in mplayer..
Its possible to toggle the subtitle on/off with the keys b & j.

can also use commandline: mplayer matrix.mkv -slang eng
