Hello everyone,
I just installed Arch Linux and after installing all necessary packages to run my WM I noticed that my second monitor doesn't get detected.
I have the same problem sometimes when running Windows 10 but I thought it might be just a software problem but after experiencing the same issue on Arch Linux I just want to find out the reason.
I found many many posts about issues with multi-monitor setups on the web but I couldn't find anything yet to solve mine.
First of all I used nvidia-settings to try to enable the second display but nvidia-settings doesn't detect it.
Then I tried to reconnect both displays to check if there was any faulty connection. Nothing.
Next I ran the following command:
xrandr -qAnd I got the following result:
Screen 0: minimum 8 x 8, current 1920 x 1080, maximum 16384 x 16384

DP-0 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
DVI-D-0 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
DP-1 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)So the first display is connected to HDMI-0 as you can see, the second one is attached to one of the DVI ports. I already tried to connect it to the other DVI port, too. No success.
Under Windows I can get it working just fine. Sometimes it is disabled after bootup, too, but I can get Windows to detect it. Sometimes it takes longer than other times but it is possible.
I don't know what the reason is.
If it is the graphics card then I wouldn't expect it to work just fine after getting the second display up again (it doesn't go down again afterwards).
The same with the display itself. If it is enabled it works fine without any weird behaviour.
I don't have another DVI cable right now so I might check this too after buying another one.
How can I narrow down the reason for this behaviour?
Edit: It seemed to be a cable-related issue. Just turned around the cable and it is working now.
