I have been trying to install Arch to a USB 3.0 Flash Drive but can never get it to properly display Grub. It loads with a rainbow-colored horizontal line, even after editing the Grub output to console-only. I tried running through the Wiki (see here) but everytime I have tired it I get a pixelated boot screen.
I tried installing Arch to the USB on a different computer via an installation DVD and from the Pixel via chroagh. The outcome was the same (pixelated screen) for both installations.
I am unsure of how to fix it as all the suggestions I've seen (such as setting output to console or the GFXMode to 1280x850x16) don't seem to do anything to fix the problem.

Did you put the console only option at the very beginning of the grub config then do the mkconfig?

Update: Now that's perplexing, I got it to show Grub and boot then logged-in and decided to reboot. I issued a shutdown and let it do it's thing and I'm right back to square one. Weird!
That fixed it, it boots now! :-) I also commented out the other output=console lines and the GFXMode line though I'm not sure that was totally necessary.
Thanks so much for the help.
