Steam Games freeze during playing

I am using Arch with GNOME desktop and nvidia + bumblebee. I've noticed that steam games such as Dota 2, Broforce, Insurgency etc. randomly freeze for 1 to 5 seconds. I am not sure but it can be related to desktop environment because I did not notice this issue when I was using MATE.
My laptop:Z
MSI GE70 240XPL
Intel 4700MQ
GeForce 760M (2GB)
8GB ram

Arch up to date

Re: Steam Games freeze during playing

Did you check dmesg or journalctl?

Re: Steam Games freeze during playing

Looks like your processor is throttling due to overheating. There's not much you can do about that from the OS. You can invest in a better cooling system, or underclock your processor.

Sakura:-
Mobo: MSI MAG X570S TORPEDO MAX // Processor: AMD Ryzen 9 5950X @4.9GHz // GFX: AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT // RAM: 32GB (4x 8GB) Corsair DDR4 (@ 3000MHz) // Storage: 1x 3TB HDD, 6x 1TB SSD, 2x 120GB SSD, 1x 275GB M2 SSD

Making lemonade from lemons since 2015.

Re: Steam Games freeze during playing

I think this problem is not connected with overheating. It's a laptop so it's normal that I have high temperatures (I use turbo cooling mode and cooling pad) but as I said this problem does not occur when I was using MATE Desktop. Yesterday I was playing and during about 2 hours of matches I had freeze problem only one time.

Re: Steam Games freeze during playing

If your processor is clocking itself down to avoid greater issues, this might cause a sort of lag spike. Try underclocking the CPU, if you can, and then running the game. Regardless of how cool you think you're keeping your laptop, it is telling you otherwise. "Package temperature above threshold, cpu clock throttled"

Re: Steam Games freeze during playing

Is there any article about it on wiki? I can't find articles about underclocking. I am using lapop mode tools, maybe this package provides underclocking?

it would be through BIOS.
