Hi all,
after a long long absence from this forum, and from arch community i'm back again. Maybe I'd have post this in another forum, but since i'm back with a new release of gtkpacman, I thought that two posts were too many.
So, as i said I'm here with a new gtkpacman release, the 2.0alpha1.
As the name says, it's an alpha release, so not everything it yet implemented (so if you click a button and anything happens, you're trying to get something I've not implemented yet )
New in this release: everything
New in this release (verbose):
New GUI layout
New database implementation
New way to interface with pacman
Queues of action to execute in one time (something like synaptic)
New search implementation

welcome back man, and congrat about the new gtkpacman.
You might want to consult with the guzuta author, which is now finalizing his new python wrapper arround pacman library, and join forces with him (as the paku author told me he himself is doing) - better having 1 perfect frontend than having several broken ones
in anyway, i couldnt test the new gtkpacman since its giving me "NameError: glut is not in the database" error each time i try to install something, though i did install freeglut (just to make sure...).
gluck.

Well, I'm going to join with guzuta author to make a new project wich uses pynealpm. Just to say goodbye to gtkpacman i'll keep developing it 'till the 2.0 final version (so at least one month from today).
So... z4ziggy, could you send me the console output when you're having that error (the console from which you run gtkpacman, not the terminal used by gtkpacman). Thanks.
Anyway, the 2.0alpha2 is out!
New in this release:
- Implemented 'Install/Upgrade from local file' feature
- Implemented 'Clear Cache' and 'Empty Cache' feature
- Some bug fixes (clearly not the bug reported by z4ziggy )

You obivously missed the beginning of his post
Well, I'm going to join with guzuta author to make a new project wich uses pynealpm.
I think it's a good move because it seemed like there was an awlful lot of overlap, although guztuta's parsing of pacman was crying for a more elegant solution.

Not anymore, now it is all alpm goodness infused with loads of python so will be the next front end I and ragnarok will come up with. Now that we'll be joining forces, you can expect updates in the near future, I think. Now to find spare time to get things going ...

Well, i'm here with the 2.0beta1 release.
In this release the bug reported from mpie has been fixed. Please, try the new release and tell me if you still get it .
As for the bug reported by z4ziggy: It may be due to corrupted source. Try to download the latest pkg and tell me if the error persist.
New in this release:
- Implemented Upgrade system
- Implemented Refresh database
- Improved Search alghoritm
- Added italian localizzation
- Fixed bugs in repo selection when running with localizzation

1st, sorry for not watching for the 1st lines you posted... :oops:
congrat on joining forces! I will look forward to your corporate version of the next gui pacman...
about your latest version, heres the error (I dl the PKGBUILD, had to dl the source manually since the PKGBUILD tries to dl from a berlios webpage...) :

Hi z4ziggy, to debug your prob, i'd need you to run this script in the gtkpacman sources' main dir, or, if you have installed the pkg, anywhere you want to do it.
#!/usr/bin/env python
from locale import setlocale, LC_ALL
from gettext import install
from gtk.glade import bindtextdomain, textdomain
from gtkPacman import database
from pickle import Pickler
setlocale(LC_ALL, '')
bindtextdomain('gtkpacman', 'data/locale')
textdomain('gtkpacman')
install('gtkpacman', 'data/locale', unicode=1)
dump_file = file("database.dump", "w")
pickler = Pickler(dump_file)
db = database()
for repo in database.values():
for pac in repo:
db.set_pac_properties(pac)
continue
continue
pickler.dump(db)
To run it, save it as dump.py, give it 755 permissions, and run it as ./dump.py. It'll create a database.dump file, wich you'd send to me at ragnarok@email.it. Thanks for your bug report

well... i don't know why your error occurs, but i think it's your python installation fault... try to run gtkpacman with python /usr/bin/gtkpacman and then, if you still get the error, run dump.py with python dump.py. Let me know

I installed gtkpacman and ran in from a terminal as root.
I want to preferences > 'Gui options' and changed 'select terminal font' from 13 to 9, I clicked ok, then I clicked ok to exit the preferences window, but it will not work. The 'OK' button does not do anything.
I saw this error in termial

Hi all,
as promised in other posts today, i'm back at developing gtkPacman. By now there's new stuff in the svn repo (and i've fixed the PKGBUILD for gtkpacman-svn on th AUR so it's working fine now). I'll release soon a 2.0.1 version. Enjoy svn and test

I would really like a decent pacman frontend similar to adept or synaptic. Last time I tried this it didn't work too well..

Try to look on the side of Frugalware... They achieved something really excellent with their Gfpm. If it could be forked for Arch, it would be really cool.
