I added 'radeon' and 'drm' to MODULES in /etc/mkinitcpio.conf to prevent other error messages to pop up.

Is my graphic card working at least partially? What do I have to do? What other thing would help to track the error?

thanks

Re: [GPU] AMD Radeon R5 M230: VCE init error (-22)

What other thing would help to track the error?

lots of googling...
You can check the AMD (ATI) Radeon website to see if your video card supports VCE, it may not - AMD VCE supported cards start @ 180USD and up. It's the hardware, there maybe a software workaround available? If you aren't doing video transcoding jobs that require embedded VCE or equivalent software and it isn't preventing your machine from booting or other graphic use (games, videos, ffmpeg, etc) then your video card is working and if any of the other applications can't use certain graphic card features, they'll most likely get passed to the cpu.
Video Code Engine: http://www.amd.com/en-us/products/graph … ok/r5-m200, doesn't look like the R5's support VCE

According to Wikipedia, AMD Radeon R6 Kaveri supports VCE 2.0 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Accelerat … e_overview

I found this bug report but I'm not sure about what to do now https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+sour … ug/1512848

Ok, the title of the post refers to an R5-M230. Does dmesg or journalctl show "UVD initialized" somewhere in the radeon stuff starting up, most likely a few lines after the VCE error? I don't see it in your post, maybe further down in the script?
UVD performs mostly same function as VCE only at a significantly reduced capacity for lack of better verbage.
I read the Ubuntu bug but didn't see any fixes mentioned in it yet. However, if your monitor lights up, is visible, you certainly have backlight, the message either is in error or logged before the back-light was active.
What does 'uname -a' show?
I don't know fix for this, I still get the VCE -110 error on my Asus however, my video card doesn't support VCE but have no graphic related problems. I've also heard Lenovo's are not open-source friendly when it comes to graphics. Possibly install the proprietary drivers (catalyst) instead of xf86-video-ati.
