Trouble trying to configure sound. [rMBP'15]

Greeetings Arch forums!

I'm on a fresh install of Arch Linux on my Macbook Pro 15" 2015. I'm on i3, and I'm having trouble trying to work with the sound.

I have done nothing other than to install alsa-utils so I could use alsamixer to actually turn it up from 0%. The internal speakers work fine, no problems, as well as the microphone.

However, I use a USB DAC/AMP for my headset, and I just can't get it to work. I have tried muting different stuff in alsamixer, as well as changing settings, but it just never catches any sounds, and it always comes out of the internal speakers.

My DAC is a FiiO E10K, and it worked with no problems under gnome. I used the media keys there to control the volume etc, but since these are not working under i3 (yet, this a another issue for another thread) I can't use them.

Thank you.

Re: Trouble trying to configure sound. [rMBP'15]

Output of

aplay -lL

how do you determine that it doesn't work? how are you attempting to play to it, have you already tried e.g.

speaker-test -D'$NAMEOFUSBCARD' -c2

Under GNOME you probably used pulseaudio which allows easy switching between devices, something you might want to consider as well here.
