Has anyone else tried booting from the install CD to into Arch with an XFS root?
For, me, it wouldn't work. I needed to get back in after having the MBR wiped over by windows. I did vmlinuz root=/dev/sdb2 but got a kernel panic about unknown block option. I tried to explicitly state the initrd.img file in /dev/sdb1 but that didn't work.
Next I tried booting into the install system and from their chrooting into my own. However, I couldn't mount any XFS drives. It seems only reiser and ext2/3 were able to be read by the install environment.
Has anyone else had this?
Also, I think the message that comes up at the boot prompt is erroneous. It says to type 'arch root=/dev/hdXY' to access your local install. Typing this actually brings me into the install environment. You have to type in "vmlinuz root=/dev/hdXY" to try and boot your installed system

I have used Arch Cd to chroot into broken install to fix broken bootloader no problem
as for XFS well I do not use it so cannot say if it works with it or not
search forums for broken boot / mbr or look at

Yeah, as I said, I tried chrooting, but the install/rescue CD doesn't seem to load XFS drivers so I can't mount the drives to chroot into, nor can I boot into the XFS local root drive using the CD kernel.

Have you tried loading any of the addons ?

Works for me with XFS using the Arch install CD, Archie, System Rescue CD (I've had a lot of experience with having to boot into a dead box). I didn't do anything different than what they say in the Wiki though.
