I know that if journald wants to use 4GB to store journals, it removes the oldest files on next rotation of current journals (archiving) after it crosses the 4GB quota.
Will it take into account *.journal~ files when purging the oldest journals as well or do I have to manually remove those?
(*.jorunal~ files are ones that were not closed correctly after an incorrect shutdown)

journalctl and systemd-journald ignore all files with names not ending with ".journal" or ".journal~", so only such files, located in the appropriate directories, are taken into account when calculating current disk usage.
