Pulse audio loses sound -or rather sends it to spdif- after i unplug headphones. This started happening after the Pulse 8.0 update.
If i start my desktop the output section of the mixer reads Build in Audio Analog stereo and the menu gives Line out and Headphones options.
If i plug in my headphones -which is the way i listen to music- it (the output) automatically changes to Headphones.
However when i unplug the Build in Audio Analog stereo disappears a Build in digital Analog stereo appears with only the spdif option and no way to change it to analog.
Logging out and logging in again fixes it until i plug and unplug headphones again.
Any ideas on how to fix this are welcome.
Thanks in advance.

I also have this problem. I haven't found a solution for preventing it from happening in the first place, but using the "pavucontrol" program, you can tweak the current outputs on the Configuration tab so you don't have to log out and back in. Change the SPIDF dropdown back to your analog device.

Update: if you disable the module-switch-on-port-available module in </etc/pulse/default.pa>, it won't switch away from your analog device when you unplug your headphones. It may prevent some desired auto-switching from working, though.

Good thing i am not alone (in the sense that more people are more likely to find a solution).
Do you know if this is something that has to be reported in the pulseaudio bug tracker or somewhere else?

This is the main feature of pulseaudio 8 so this might be worth a bug report that eventually the switching priorities can be tweaked.

Upstream bug and patch that most likely fixes it.
