I can detect my printer (at least I see it when I click 'find printers' in cups), but I can not add the printer.
cups log shows the following error:
E [04/Feb/2016:21:56:22 +0100] [cups-deviced] PID 29752 (gutenprint52+usb) stopped with status 1!
I tried reinstalling cups and gutenprint, but no use.
My printer is a canon PIXMA MG5550 and till a few days ago I successfully used the canon-pixma-mg5500-complete package.
(though I don't have the impression this is the problem, cause if I uninstall it and try to use the standard (gutenprint?) driver it also fails)
any idea's are welcome !! thank you for reading, many thx for answering ![]()

Problem seemed to be gutenprint, got it working again with the following steps (not sure all are necessary).
* delete cups and gutenprint
* delete cups configuration directory (/etc/cups)
* reinstall cups + configure printer
If I add gutenprint to the equation again, cups locks up on add printer.
Bizar. But currently I can do without gutenprint

I had the very same problem with my Samsung ML-1610. I did as you did: deleted everything and reinstalled it and then it worked.
Thank you very much.
