[solved] Screwed up X while setting up vga-passthrough

Hi.

My config:
cpu: i5 3470
vga: nvidia 760gtx

Yesterday I was trying to set up VGA passthrough using this guide: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/PC … h_via_OVMF .

I did everything including building linux-lts-vfio from aur up to "IOMMU groups" step and rebooted the machine. After that I can't start X.
Next, I tried to uninstall nvidia driver and install mesa and xf86-video-intel which doesn't help. Then, I reversed all settings I did, and still X failed to start.

I found nothing suspicious in dmesg. But in xorg.log nvidia driver says "(EE) NVIDIA(0): Failed to initialize the NVIDIA graphics device!". Which is looks like some problem with nvidia kernel module. But reinstalling stock kernel and nvidia package didn't help.

I have full root filesystem backup, but really want to find out, what part of the system I broke.

In addition the steps you took, give a summary of exactly what you're trying to accomplish. Most people would passthrough the nVidia card, but it looks like you had the nvidia rather than intel drivers installed which would suggest you're trying to passthrough the IGD.

Thank you for suggestions.

I repeated all the steps from the guide I mentioned in the first post, and now everyting works fine. Host system successfully boots in X using intel device, guest boots using nvidia.

I guess I missed something when I did it first time.
