Steam won't launch and gives the output below. I fixed the library issues which appeared first.
I also tried installing the Steam fonts and the wiki entry for the segmentation fault. This is on 64bit Arch using the open-source amd drivers.

Done. In the future, the moderators will find requests such as this faster if you use the 'Report' function and leave us a short note stating your request. Moderators will see a flag that a report has been made rather than our having to stumble upon the request.
Thanks.

I pretty much get this exact same error on this Ubuntu OpenBox based distro (play-linux).
Ironically if I just boot from the USB pen stick and try and install steam it works without a issue, its only once I have it installed on my HDD I get this crap below ![]()

From what I've seen the "line 756: xxxx Segmentation fault" is just another Steam Runtime issue.
How big are those .dmp files?
Have either of you tried https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/St … tion_fault
You could try https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/St … ve_runtime but that may just lead to other errors.

I managed to resolve the problem finally by doing a couple things, however I don't know which was the direct solution. 1) load up livecd which steam worked on, copy its usr folder over to fresh install overwriting existing files (couple files were missing in comparison) 2) create a new user account on the installed os with adduser (be sure to make it sudo permissions)
Then I loaded up steam anew and it worked. Bizarre...

Neither of the two wiki entries changed anything for me. Still gives the same error.
theriddick seems to have his problem sorted but I'm not sure if he's running Arch, although the error is similar.
Why's steam such a mess on anything but Ubuntu? Is it due to it's closed nature?
Offline
Just keep in mind I still need to run steam with LD_PRELOAD='/usr/$LIB/libstdc++.so.6' DISPLAY=:0 LIBGL_DEBUG=verbose steam (this saves me the effort of deleting these files manually all the time).
I also run a Ubuntu based distro but the problems people face with steam and library file issues is common. I would try booting up off your Arch linux livecd and installing steam on that and see if it works fine still (since it will be a clean test). Comparing the verbose outputs might help.

Another similar error: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=206309

That combined with the very different nature of the distro they chose to support. I really don't see why they don't just open-source the client.

I may just try a fresh install, possibly on a seperate partition.
I'll post back here with the results.
Also I tried reinstalling everything mentioned in the other post(mesa, xf86-video-amdgpu etc)
Offline
I got it working after doing a fresh install.
I'll mark this as solved.
