xf86-video-intel screen tearing

The Intel HD graphics driver from testing (xf86-video-intel 1:2.99.917+544+g8b8c9a3-1) causes screen tearing in some applications (e.g. applications built on top of Github Electron like the Atom editor) whereas everything works fine with the extra repository driver (1:2.99.917+519+g8229390-1). I've also tried the GIT version of the driver and the issue persists.

Re: xf86-video-intel screen tearing

Have you tried https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/In … free_video?

FWIW, I have always had tearing with my HD4600

Re: xf86-video-intel screen tearing

I use compton-git from AUR. Disabling it doesn't fix the issue.

I've just tried setting the TearFree option, but it had no effect.
Also - I haven't experienced tearing before.

Re: xf86-video-intel screen tearing

Try running compton with these options

compton --backend glx --paint-on-overlay --vsync opengl-mswc

pacman -S spotify-launcher

Re: xf86-video-intel screen tearing

I've always been running compton with these options (they gave the best effect - no tearing whatsoever).
I don't think this is related to compton, since turning it on/off doesn't change anything.

This is what I see when I run Atom editor with testing/xf86-video-intel:

To me it looks like a driver issue.

Re: xf86-video-intel screen tearing

You know good and bad versions, you'll need to do git bisect to find out what's causing this

https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Bisecting_bugs

My GM45 graphics is not affected so I can't do it

I guess I'll do that, I just wanted to make sure that I am not missing anything obvious.
