Some characters of some fonts disappear sytemwide .

This happens sometimes after I resume my laptop (Lenovo Yoga 3 11.6") from sleep.

I apologise in advance for any spelling mistakes in this post, as half of the charactersare currently invisible to me.

Here are some screenshots of the issue:

Rebooting fixes the issue, but that's not an ideal solution, for obvious reasons.

I have had other issues when resuming from sleep, for example once the system was completely unresponsive and I had to reboot.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Edit: I just closed and opened the lid of my laptop, to see if that made a difference. Now 99% of characters are invisible. I'm writing this completely blind. I guess I'm going to have to read any responese with elinks (My termial font seems unaffected).

Here's the relevant dmesg output from sleep/resume:

Edit: Exiting to lightdm and logging back in seems to have temporarily fixed it. Is there some kind of font cache that is getting flushed? (I fixed my typos btw)

Re: Some characters of some fonts disappear sytemwide .

Although I cannot propose you a definitive solution to your problem, I think it most probably related to the driver of the graphic card. You should post Xorg.0.log as well as much information as you have about the driver. Sometimes changing the AccelMethod might help.

Re: Some characters of some fonts disappear sytemwide .

I think you're right about the graphics being the issue. I just had to reboot because all my graphical programs locked up.

I can't see anything of interest in the xorg logs.

My CPU is a Core M-5Y10c with integrated HD 5300 graphics. I'm using the  xf86-video-intel driver.

I'm going to try fiddling with the options listed on the wiki. It might be related to this bug: https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=109051

Re: Some characters of some fonts disappear sytemwide .

A search with "broken fonts on intel card" gives a lot of hits with Google, all more or less related with what you describe.

Re: Some characters of some fonts disappear sytemwide .

I *think*  `intel_idle.max_cstate=1` fixed it, but it's hard to be sure since it's a pretty intermittent issue.

Re: Some characters of some fonts disappear sytemwide .

The linked kernel bug is not relevant if you aren't on Baytrail hardware (new x64 generation of tablet and low-power mobile devices) - using intel_idle.max_cstate=1 will definitely have battery life / power consumption implications.

Instead, you may want to see the workaround provided in the Intel driver wiki entry and look into providing feedback and system information to the linked FreeDesktop bug report.
