Well, I don't know about shadowhand's Xfce, but I use startxfce4 instead of startx. Without some tweaking that's the only proper way to start Xfce.

There's your error. You already have a xorg server running.

no shadowhand i dont know why it says that , im running the startx just after the computer boots up , no X at all , for example after the errors , i just modify the .xinitrc file to startkde and it starts ok. Really there is no X server running at all i guess its just a warning, remember if i start is as root it does start
thanx again ![]()

Try using xfce4-session instead.

Try this: rm -rf ~/.cache/xfce4
If that doesn't work, try this:
pacman -R xfce4
pacman -Scc
pacman -Sy --noconfirm xfce4-svn xfce4-svn-extra

i dont have a folder .cache/xfce4 , and i also found what the problem is related to , it seems to be something with qt and/or the theme that i have selected on kde, because as root i had never started kde and thats why when i try to start xfce4 as root i have no problems , also i created a new user just to try if i was correct and the new user also starts xfce4.
then i went to change some aspects of my theme on kde , trying to select plastik and now i can see more things about xfce4 but i dont have the launcher from below the screen , and i dont have the bar on top of xfce4 that shows the apps running.
Im going to keep looking about what i need to correct on kde for this to get fixed.
thanx for all your help , at the moment im running xfce4 with the new user i created ![]()

Hi,
Exactly same problem here, did you finally solve that issue ?
Thanks in advance
Cheers

I had similar problem. I solved it by removing gtk-qt-engine package.

I get the same message, I think it's not error.

If you startx and startxfce4 you try to start X twice.

Is it wrong? It just works...
Is there way to start xfce better? ATM I use kdm (I just switched to xfce from kde), but maybe it doesn't make sense to use kdm only for xfce?

Like byte proposed startxfce4 from console instead of startx.
I think startxfce4 uses ~/.config/xfce4/xinitrc instead of ~/.xinitrc
Not sure now using icewm.

I don't start startx at all (myself), i just added kdm to deamons in rc.conf.

Yes, it does. It runs xfce4-session.
