libgphoto2 was downgraded as the new version was not compatible with the KDE digikam program (download of pictures not possible with digikam). Please see some messages above in this thread.

Is this still an issue? I loaded digikam today. My Canon A75 is autodetected in Digikam, but won't connect.

The error message is:

Failed to connect to camera. Please make sure its connected properly and turned on. Would you like to try again?

Same message if nothing connected.My libgphoto2 is 2.1.6-6. Would this be the same problem, am I missing something in my install/setup, or is something just broke?

Just wondering. It works on a Kubuntu box that I want to load with Arch.

AFAIK the canon A75 is supported by libgphoto2. Try to connect to the camera with gphoto2, a console based frontend and see if it gives any more information.
If it does not work, it may be well worth to find out which version (+patches) of libgphoto2 your kubuntu box uses, so you can build it the same on arch.

Thanks for the assist. gphoto2 works. I ran digikam as root from the cli and it worked; I was able to connect and the thumbnail image stored on the camera came up.

Do I need to add myself to a group? Could this have more to do with the USB port than digikam?
